Krithi Shetty Talks Comic Talent and Challenges in Upcoming Film “Custody”

May 15, 2023

Renowned for her girl-next-door and glamourous roles, Krithi Shetty is urging fans to keep an eye out for her comedic prowess in the highly anticipated film “Custody.” Portraying the character of Revathi, she brings a remarkable sense of comic timing to the screen, offering a refreshing dose of laughter whenever the protagonist, Naga Chaitanya, turns serious.

In contrast to her previous ventures, Shetty describes “Custody” as a realistic action drama, diverging from the genres she has explored thus far. Embracing the opportunity to delve into comedy, she emphasizes the importance of well-crafted writing and impeccable dialogue delivery in creating a comedic context.

However, Shetty encountered her fair share of challenges during the production. One major hurdle was maintaining scene continuity, which required her to apply two or three layers of tan makeup to achieve a darker complexion for her character. Juggling simultaneous shoots for two other films sometimes caused her to forget the tan makeup, leading to later realizations of the oversight by herself and her team.

Additionally, the need to appear darker presented difficulties in shooting the film’s underwater sequences. Multiple layers of tan makeup had to be applied to ensure its durability in water, and constant makeup checks every five minutes became a necessity. Shetty acknowledges the arduousness of these circumstances, emphasizing the demanding nature of the process.

Shetty embarked on her Tollywood career with the blockbuster hit “Uppena” in 2021, which propelled her into the industry’s spotlight. Reflecting on her journey, she has gained a deeper understanding of the immense effort and dedication that goes into filmmaking. Her perspective has shifted, leading her to advocate for kindness and constructive criticism, appreciating the collaborative nature of the craft.

Addressing the topic of a film’s failure and the blame often directed at actresses, Shetty expresses uncertainty regarding the extent of responsibility they should shoulder. She believes filmmaking is a collective endeavor, where success or failure stems from multiple factors. Acknowledging her commitment and giving her best in every role, Shetty seeks to learn from past mistakes and make better choices moving forward.

Concluding her thoughts, Shetty acknowledges the unpredictable nature of the industry, where hard work does not guarantee success. Amidst the uncertainties, she emphasizes the passion and dedication shared by everyone involved, recognizing that there is no foolproof formula for triumph in the world of cinema.
